Earth Notes
A forest of individual soft sculptured canvases and a 3D graphical musical score.
Earth Notes lies at the intersection between sculpture and painting. It is visual, tactile, kinetic piece designed to awaken our senses, bringing us into the here and now, while deeply entrenched in history, place, and time.
My ‘Notes’ are stand-alone pieces both individually and in groups, as well as forming a ‘living sculture’ when hung together. Instead of expressing my marks on my canvas, I am sculpting my canvas so the canvas quite literally becomes my mark, my ‘Note’. These can be freely suspended in space, as well as hung on a wall to mimic a graphical musical score. In this way, my Notes can also be played or danced like music.
To fully perceive Earth Notes, one must move around and within them. Feel them, sense them. My aim is to eventually create a sensory dance between Earth Notes, the viewer and the space where they come to be installed, in an ever changing, fixed yet fluid, visual, tactile and sonic sensoryscape.
In the meantime, my forest of Notes keeps growing, and this page will be updated as my work progresses..
