Current bodies of work
Having completed an in-depth body of work spanning 7 years in 2022, I am now at the early stages of several new enquiries and related bodies of work.
The use of ochre is central to my current enquires both from a scientific and historical aspect and how these relate to the human psyche. Ochre being a rare cultural feature that is consistently present through the history of humankind and is the common thread along with mark making connecting all of my ongoing work. I use both purchased and foraged pigments, directly as they are, and mixed with various acrylic mediums, alongside shop bought artist grade paints.
Ochres - ‘Iron Earths’ - are consistantly present throughout the cultural records of humanity and could suggest a deep permanence and embodied wisdom. My use of them could seem contradictory, almost out of place to the idea of impermanence and our ephemerality. Yet, both are intrinsically linked to us, our humanity, our psyche….
