I am using artistic expression and simple art processes I have developed over the years, designed specifically to help us get back in touch with our bodies, raise awareness within ourselves, our connection to each other, and to help us process our emotions and build inner strength. The ethnologist E. Dissanayake (Homo Aestheticus: Where Art Comes from and Why, 1995, E. Dissanayake) has defined art and related activities as "processes that have helped people return to psychological and social equilibrium" over the millennia, and perceives art as "a normal and important activity for people on an equal footing with communication, work, exercise, play, socialization, learning, love and care".

No previous drawing, movement or dance experience necessary

I first began using drawing as a way of making sense of things in the visual diaries I kept as a child. I developed my own ‘secret language’ of marks based on an intuitive interpretation of the sensations I felt both passing through and within my body as I encountered the world. My ‘secret language’ of colours, textures & movements with which I was able to express the subtle nuances of each emotion, and each sensation as I experienced them. Mark Making - the language of our ancestors. A language I continue to embrace.

When it comes to movement I love to move. I love to dance. These last 10 years have seen me actively seeking out professional dancers and movers with whom I have co-explored the relationship between movement and mark making. Anastassija (featured together with me in the photo above) with whom I did my first public performance in 2015. Henriette, who co-authored one of my first research papers ‘Moving Around – Exploring Movements in Co-creation between Visual Arts and Modern Dance’. My former colleagues from the studio, Atle and Sua, who both bought their wonderful energy, knowledge and insights to my Art Labs. And of course, Kyrre, who continues to open his dance studio to me, my art & my charcoal.
