Red Earth, Bone Black - Breathing With Ghosts.
Transience, impermanence and the fragility of life, and the space left by someone who is gone. Grief – love in all its nuances.
Red ‘Iron Earth’. Bone Black. Fire in an immortalized state. Burnt remains suspended in time.
Burnt remains are both everything and nothing, the presence and the non-presence. The relics, traces, marks we leave behind. Like a footprint, illuminating the spot where our body once moved. A moment of flux frozen in time. The non-existence, non-living. We leave our mark on others; they leave their marks on us. The effect of our Fire remains, lingers, prevails, even though we were sharing just a moment in time.
My experience is that a person can remain present with you in the here and now while physically absent. They have both a very real presence you can feel, and a non-presence. Deceased or estranged – departed, yet very much alive within you.
