Henry Millar (1891-1980) has a quote that resonates within me - “To paint is to love again, and to love is to live life to the fullest”

This is what I am doing every time I paint. For me painting is a way of being. A way of seeing. A way of understanding. When I paint I go to love.

There is no judgement in love. No fear. There is simply being.

‘Simply me’ represents the beginning of the end of my journey though trauma and survival to once again fully embracing being alive. An expression of my inner joy and unquenchable thirst for life. Embracing my femininity and affinity with nature. A visual representation of the aliveness I feel inside me.

My use of the ancient pigments – especially the ochres – is quite deliberate, ochre being the earliest known pigments used by humans, often regarded as symbolising life itself.
