‘Ancient Notes’ 2024

An ongoing investigation that began in 2022 with ‘My Canvas Is My Notation’ series.

My paintings are my graphic scores - my marks are my notes.

Instead of expressing my marks with paint on my canvas, my canvas has quite literally become my mark – my ‘note’. Each notation will eventually have its own sound taken from my field recordings. Together these notations will be used to create an installation – one which reflects and refracts the light in different ways as you move around it, thus creating a kind of sensory dance between the artwork and the viewer in an ever changing, fixed yet fluid, tactile, sensoryscape.

Coarse French linen + acrylic / ancient pigments mixed with acrylic binder.

. The linen is sized using ‘Kat dimensions’ - my body - before it is formed to a notation.
